Lahore, February 16, 2010 - In a ceremony held today in Lahore, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Bob Wilson joined Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to inaugurate a new science building at the Forman Christian College. The building, constructed with U.S. assistance in partnership with the Government of Punjab and the College, houses new information technology, biology, chemistry, and physics laboratories.
"Educational institutions like the Forman Christian College contribute to the future of Pakistan by providing an affordable and obtainable world-class education," Wilson said at the ceremony. "The new building's fully-equipped science and information technology laboratories are the essential tools needed to assist Pakistan in meeting the new millennium's higher education challenges."
Construction of the science building commenced in 2005 when the U.S. contributed a $5 million (Rs. 425 million) grant to Forman Christian College. The grant provided 100 computers for information labs, established a new library, and supported development of a four-year baccalaureate program, 1,400 scholarships, curriculum and staff development.
